  • This session brings our ACCET community back face-to-face for the first time in 2 years. It features important information from ACCET’s Commission Chair and Deputy Executive Director, along with a lively keynote address.

     

    Yadexy Sierra, ACCET Commission Chair, will update the attendees on recent happenings and paint a bright stroke on ACCET’s future. Kate Zulaski, ACCET’s Deputy Executive Director, will add her perspective on our conference theme, “Together Towards Tomorrow” as well as her insight into the forward thinking of ACCET. Dr. Scott Fitzgibbon, our keynote speaker, is well-known in our sector and always inspires and motivates his audiences. He understands those things that are important to the mood of our space.

     

    Dr. Scott Fitzgibbon has been involved in higher education since 1991 with wide-ranging experience in teaching, admissions, student services, and career services. Scott has worked extensively with school administrators and faculty specializing in cognitive-behavioral training, adult learning, learner-centered approach toward management and teaching, student persistence and retention, residence life, student services, personal coaching, and behavioral management. He has taught thousands of employees and students to apply behavioral understanding toward teaching, learning, teamwork, admissions, and student services.

     

    Dr. Fitzgibbon is a co-author of The Pacific Institute’s Thought Patterns for High Performance® Mindsetting for Success and Well-Being in the Digital Age curriculum. The Thought Patterns student success curriculum has reached over 1,600,000 students and 35,000 school employees over the last 25 years.

     

    In addition to his work within education, Dr. Fitzgibbon has designed and implemented professional development training and evaluation initiatives for healthcare and service providers, social service and government agencies, and manufacturing. He has earned a Doctorate in Education Administration from the University of Pittsburgh (2002), a master’s degree in Student Personnel Services and Counseling also from the University of Pittsburgh (1995), and a bachelor's degree in Business Finance from St. Vincent College (1991). In addition, he is a Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Counselor (2002).

     

    Dr. Fitzgibbon has guest lectured for numerous international, national, and state association conferences.

  • ACCET proudly presents a distinguished panel of dignitaries from state and national organizations to share their expertise and offer their opinions on the latest trending topics in higher education. These recognized leaders will discuss varying viewpoints on specific items such as the intense scrutiny on the private for-profit sector, the impact of the Washington administration, student outcomes, issues facing intensive English schools, and the status of federal regulations as related to accreditation and accredited schools. Our sector continues to be in a state of confusing changes and proposals, both for Title IV schools and Intensive English Programs. There will be an opportunity for Q & A from the audience.

  • Yadexy Sierra, Chair of ACCET’s Commission, will preside over the Annual Business Meeting which will address matters pertinent to the business and activities over the past year as well as a financial report. The nominating committee will present its report as specified in the Bylaws and requires a quorum of voting members and/or proxies. ACCET’s Deputy Executive Director, Kate Zulaski, will deliver a report to the members. This is an important session for attendees to learn about the internal happenings of ACCET and commission actions.

  • The Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) representative will discuss information on topical issues, share upcoming guidance and discuss best practices for Intensive English Programs and program updates.   • This interactive legal presentation will focus on dealing with accessibility issues during the pandemic and beyond for both students and faculty and will specifically address the challenges of students and faculty with special needs in the terms of facilities, access to the internet and testing under the Americans with Disabilities Act. These topics concerning community and accessibility issues are very timely and should help administrators and faculty at institutions coping with such issues. The presenters will also provide handout materials so that the attendees can have additional information to guide them when they return to their institutions.

  • Does the Commission decision process seem like an enigma shrouded in a mystery? This session will show you the step-by-step processes the Commission and committees go through to make decisions about institutions. Three ACCET Commissioners representing the Standards and Review Process Committee, the Financial Review Committee, and the Completion and Placement Committee, will present their perspectives, and a long-term ACCET staff member will also provide input.

  • Employers have been talking about skills gaps for years. So, how can the education industry answer the challenge and produce more people at least 80% job-ready on day one? Come learn about the Easy to Hard Pathway which is focused on: being accessible to any entry level learner, emphasizing job task competency first and raw knowledge second, building student confidence working from the easiest fundamentals to the most advanced job role skills, integration of real-world challenges and problem solving, incorporating soft skills and business acumen and having a rigorous quantitative underpinning ensuring all students reach a desired level of competency by the time they leave the program in as little as 4-9 months of work.

  • The U.S. Department of Education and other regulators continue to increase scrutiny over compliance with cybersecurity standards, including the requirements under GLBA, NIST SP 800-171, and state privacy laws. Not only can the failure to adequately safeguard data be costly and result in reputational damage, but it can also place an institution's eligibility to participate in Title IV in jeopardy.
